The Similarity Within Different Connections by: Ximena Del Toro
A relationship is defined as “the way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected, or the state of being connected.” There is more than one type of relationship. There is a different relationship between a blood relative than with someone with a romantic relationship. While they are different types of relationships, they are very similar. Both types of relationships provide love and comfort. They allow for an individual to feel the love from multiple beings and having someone be there to comfort them when they need it the most. As humans, we have negative emotions. It is important that we have someone who can allow us to feel happy. Besides this, a family relationship and romantic relationship allow for someone to know you the best. They will know when you feel happy and sad despite your physical image. Those with whom we have a close relationship like these will be able to know when something is slightly off and motivate you to talk about it in hopes of helping you for the better. A blood relative will always stick by your side, no matter the situation. They are family. In the same case, a partner will do the same. They are committed to you and will stick by your side no matter the hardships. It is important we set out to find a partner to have this relationship with. We will always have our family, but you can create a family with anyone. Both a romantic relationship and a family relationship have hardships. It is completely normal to have disagreeing opinions or for one to get upset with each other. There is no such thing as a perfect couple or family/ Aside from having similarities, a relationship with a blood relative and a relationship with a partner have their differences. Everyone dreams of having cute relationship things with their partner, especially during the holidays. Walking under a Christmas light show hand in hand, matching pajamas, cuddling while watching classic holiday movies, and such. These are not capable with a family member, only a partner. With blood relatives, we can discuss from whom we received certain traits, we can ask the older generation of our family for advice and more. In a romantic relationship, one is able to enjoy a candlelite, romantic dinner. With a family, a more casual restaurant would be ideal especially if there are little kids within the family. In a romantic relationship, two individuals can establish goals for the relationship and work for them. With a family member, we often share about our goals, not set goals for the future of the relationship. No matter how similar or different our relationships are, it is important that we prioritize them. As much as some individuals want to be independent, everyone needs a support system and people who will be able to lift them up from their darkest places. As humans, it is important that we work on our relationships, both romantic and with family. It is better to have a few strong relationships than a lot of weak and meaningless relationships.
